EXTREME COUPONING: Ready To Save Cold, Hard Cash?

A Pitt County mom is hooked on extreme couponing, and she's not just doing it for her family.

Melinda Doty saves hundreds of dollars with coupons on a regular basis, getting many items free.

She is sharing her knowledge and helping others by creating a group through her church as well.

The group, called "Holy Savers," meets to coupon and learn tips. Doty hopes to create a food ministry through the program.

Some tips to successful couponing:

--Get coupons from your Sunday newspaper
--Print out online coupons
--Organize coupons
--Know store policies before you coupon
--Watch for super double and triple deals
--Check websites for tips and deals

To Who pays: You are too full of yourself. My couponing cost you nothing. Most people that coupon are middle to upper income families. We choose to take advantage of the savings that are offered and with the internet and facebook it is so much easier to find the deals with sites like raining hot coupons and the krazy coupon lady. If you were as smart as you think you are you would also be using coupons and put the money in your savings or 401k and you would be amazed at how quick it adds up. Don't knock those of us out here who consider ourselves to be smart, frugal shoppers. It's not coming out of your pocket.

Some of these posts make me so angry because some people are "stereotyping." How dare you insinuate that everyone who coupons or who gets assistance is lazy, overweight, unhealthy, etc. You have no idea of each person's situation and assuming you do shows how ignorant you are....

Way to go Melinda, I love using coupons and I feel like I am clipping free money with each one .Some people will never put forth the effort to save their family money but I enjoy teaching others how easy it is, definitely not like it was when my grandmother did it. The Internet and facebook makes it so simple. Good luck with your Church project.

If people want to coupon let them coupon. What's wrong with trying to save a little money.

I have a full time job, 2 small children and I MAKE time to coupon b/c it saves $ for my family. It is worth the time put in it. If you are having a hard time finding coupons, go on ebay and buy the whole inserts. Don't blame those of us that are dedicated enough to get up early to get a newspaper. AND I pay for every newspaper I take b/c it is STEALING to pay for one but take more. They need to do a story on paper/coupon theft. And just b/c I coupon, doesn't mean I'm overweight and unhealthy. Making statements like that just show your ignorance. My son has celiac disease so I have to print coupons from certain sites for gluten free food. Way to go Melinda, keep up the good work!

I coupon, however I make it work within my job just like this lady. It's all about saving money I have a small stockpile which is great because if anything happened to my job or my husband's we could live off what I have. It's about making it work for your family and most products do have a coupon.

On these shows, the people buy NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE! If you notice, the vast majority of the people who participate are over-weight, and to no surprise if you assume they are consuming what they are buying. I have not problem with them buying things like house hold items, but when you are buying 100 boxes of pop-tarts or other processed foods, then there is an issue. Perhaps they should set aside the money they are saving for the massive health care bills they will be dealing with later in life.
