ECU Students Deal With Construction, Larger Class Sizes

Tuesday was the first day of class for the 27,000 students at ECU and they're maneuvering around construction and dealing with larger class sizes.

Sophomore Haley Bowman says,"There's definitely a lot of construction going on. It hasn't impacted me getting to my class, but I've seen a lot of people on social media complaining about having to take detours and being late to class."

Junior Meredith Allen has noticed the larger classes. She says, "In my first class there were 127 students and it was a big lecture hall and it's the biggest class I've been in since I've been here, so that was definitely a change"

The larger class sizes are the result of budget cuts from the past 5 years with the latest round 10 million dollars.

The university says students will see a difference in how they operate.

Chancellor Steve Ballard mentioned in his faculty convocation on Monday they will be more fiscally challenged this budget year and that they will have to be creative on cutting administrative costs and generating revenue.
