CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Pitt County Student Attacked By Another On The Bus

An assault on a school bus in Pitt County was caught on cellphone video and the girls involved say bullying led to punches being thrown.

Twelve-year-old Georgia Hayes is a 7th grader at A.G. Cox Middle School in Pitt County and says she suffered a concussion in the attack. She says she's been bullied for months, but she can't believe she was actually attacked.

The assault was recorded by another student on the bus Wednesday. In the video you can see students walking by Hayes and getting off the bus. Then another 7th grade girl starts punching Hayes repeatedly.

Hayes' mom tells us she had just talked to a school counselor the day before to discuss girls bullying her daughter. Hayes says she hopes others see this video and will stop the bullying.

The other girl involved did talk with us as well but didn't want to go on camera. She said she had felt threatened and that's why she assaulted Hayes.

The school says the student who started the attack has been disciplined, but they won't say what that was.

The school system also says it continues to investigate and any other students involved will be disciplined.

Hayes' mom says she will take this matter to the police.

The Prin and Ast. Prin at that school are both incompetent. I had to go to the PC School Board over them two years ago b/c they refused to stop a student making death threats against several other students. Kid ended up in therapy for some serious issues, but no one at that school did anything until the court stepped in. Fire them. I would NEVER allow my child back in that school with those administrators. The worse students run that school, not the adults.

After viewing the video of the student from A.G. Cox Middle School, I was completely shocked and appauled by what I saw. I am a student at Farmville Central High School, and last year along with my Speech Class, we made this video in hopes to raise the awareness of bullying. Many people are unaware of the effects of bullying, we exposed these effects in our video to prove that Bullying is something that should not be permitted or accepted. We showed the video in our school, and made a difference there, now, we would like to continue making a difference by encouraging every student in the county not to bully. The link to our video is below.

I am the grandmother of Georgia Hayes who was brutally attacked on the bus this week in Greenville, NC. Georgia, a straight A student who could not attend her awards ceremony today, has complained about the attacker and her gang since the beginning of the school year. I am a teacher in Connecticut and know about bullying and its consequences. The Greenville Board of Education and the police dept. should work together to punish bullies not 10 day suspension and no charges. I have asked Georgia's family to press charges and see that this will not happen to any other child. Our job as parents and educators is to protect and teach our children right from wrong. Georgia's family and friends in Connecticut send their love and blessings.DO THE RIGHT THING PITT COUNTY!!!!!

When I was in school, actions such as these WOULD get you suspended for 10 days. Apparently, that's out the window now in good ole Pitt County. This county sucks now. I hope your grandchild is okay.

Don't even bother talking to the principal or vp at that school, you have to go straight to Travis Lewis at the main office to get anything at all done at that school. The principal isn't even there most of the time and the vp has a "we don't get involved until it gets bad" attitude so nothing is ever done. It's a nightmare around there, def. the worst run school in Pitt Co, and that's saying A LOT.

I am so glad that you responded to this autrocity in Pitt County NC. They picK on children from other states. My nephew went to that school and was a straight A student too. Bullies messed with him alot and we Kept telling the Principals he was bullied, his glasses were stomped and the principals said there is nothing they can do. Finally he defended his self and was suspended. You are right to press charges on that BULLY GAL. She was fighting liKe a prison inmate. The person who videoed it may have Known about the fight, but the school would have just suspended Georgia too if it wasn't for the video. I am praying for your family.
