A high school student is in trouble with the law after a loaded gun was found today.
Pitt County Schools confirm that the gun was found on a 17-year-old senior at North Pitt High School. Spokeswoman Heather Mayo says deputies were tipped off through Crime Stoppers about the possible gun. The school resource officer pulled the student out of class and he admitted to having the gun, Mayo said.
Tyler Summerlin was charged by deputies with bringing a weapon onto school property. He was released on an unsecured bond.
The school system says they don't believe Summerlin had any ill intentions with the weapon.
Deputies say the student told them he was doing some shooting last night and left the weapon in his vehicle. Summerlin told deputies once at school he put the weapon in his book bag and took it into school.
