POLICE: Drunk Woman Steals School Bus For Cross Country Trip

MOREHEAD CITY, NC - Police say a woman vandalized six school buses and stole another in a drunken foiled attempt to drive across the country with a friend.

Jillian Tetterton was arrested this morning after police say she showed up with the stolen Carteret County special needs bus at her friend's home. They say he called 911 not wanting anything to do with the bus trip. When arrested, Tetterton was still in the stolen bus.

The 22-year-old Tetterton is charged with DWI, larceny of a motor vehicle, B&E into a motor vehicle and damage to property. Police say the Newport woman blew a .11 after her arrest.

Carteret County Schools say six buses were broken into and vandalized early this morning. The school system says the seventh bus was stolen, after the thief found a key hidden inside. They explain the hidden key is necessary because there are multiple drivers for that bus.

The vandalism forced a two hour delay at Morehead City Primary School this morning. Fire extinguishers were set off inside the buses, and some stop arms were damaged. Five maintenance workers were called in at 3:00 a.m. and had the buses cleaned up in time for them to pickup students.

Records show the woman has multiple pending charges in Carteret County, including felony conspiracy to sell/deliver schedule I controlled substance. The Department of Correction says Tetterton was on probation on a drug paraphernalia charge.

For those trying to excuse her behavior, read this bit from another news site: "Carteret County School System Superintendent Dan Novey said doors to the buses were pried open, trash and interior contents of the buses scattered around and fire extinguishers expelled. Several stop arms also were tampered with during the incident."

First off, Tony, seriously? She needs help? I hope you remember that if an influenced driver hits you or a member of your family. Think about what you're really saying here. Second, no one thought it suspicious when a bus just happened to be driving around in the early morning hours? Community you have failed me. Quit making excuses or saying she had problems. We all have problems in one way or another, denying this is yours. She broke the law, and she needs to be punished accordingly.

Clearly, she had to be on bath salts or something that makes you lose all sense of reason. I don't see alcohol or narcotic substances making you do this..... unfortunately, our system will not help her or anyone else in such "trouble"....

Explain this!!! How in the world do she expect to get away with driving a bus that only go 45mph and go scott free.

Hey Bill, I drive for Pender and Duplin County and we have to leave the keys on the buses. Hey it's not the drivers fault. Noone should be on the buses even if the keys were left in the ignition. We could be sick the next morning and would't have a way to get the keys to the sub. That's the main reason the keys are left are the buses.

Granted this was not the smartest idea on her behalf... but why were the keys in the school bus?

If I don't read later, that she is also on meth, Oxycontin, or crack, I will be surprised because, no one does that in their right mind, even after drinking. How embarrassing for her family.

She's not an idiot. She's not a bad individual. She got mixed up with the wrong people. She's obviously depressed and looking for a way out of this county. She just got drunk and decided to do it the wrong way.Don't judge if you don't know.

They are always blaming kids and their parents. Who do you blame when grownups do things wrong. Do we blame the parents or E.T.?
