Local Superintendent Selected For New Job

A superintendent from Eastern Carolina has been selected for another superintendent job in another state.

The Birmingham News reports that Dr. Craig Witherspoon, the current superintendent of Edgecombe County Schools, as been selected as the new superintendent of the Birmingham, Alabama Schools Superintendent.

The paper says the The Birmingham Board of Education members voted for Witherspoon unanimously. Some board members will travel to Tarboro to meet with Witherspoon in January. Following the visit, the board will offer Witherspoon a contract, provided he passes a thorough background check.

Witherspoon took the superintendent role in Edgecombe County in 2006.

Best wishes to Dr. Craig Witherspoon. I pray Godspeed. To the person that made the negative remark concerning his going away. Whatever his reasons for not bringing his family isn't any concern of anyone. Maybe his performance with Edgecombe County Schools wasn't suitable for you, well you're just one person not the majority. God Bless

He never really liked it here anyway, never brought his family to live here either.. I say let him move on so we can get someone in that job that truly cares about Edgecombe County Schools!
