I have had the pleasure to work with and be taught by Dr. Phipps. Personally, I know what remarkable ethics and family values he holds. I also know that he is a wonderful and dedicated family man. This school system is extremely blessed to have this man on their team. I learned above and beyond text books with Dr. Phipps as my professor. Good luck to you all!

It seems that eastern NC is developing a pattern in choosing poor superintendents. Look at Hertford County. Hyde and Washington counties followed suit. Someone already mentioned Martin County. It seems there are two sets of criteria - either be someone who is clueless about running schools and/or clueless about NC schools (Hertford, Washington, Hyde) so that the board can run everything or be an arrogant, ruthless cuss. What games are we playing at the expense of our children?

The absence of leadership by all board members and their persuit of personal agendas has dismantled the educational system in our county. The entire educational leadership both elected and employed has been wiped out and power reverted back to the county comissioners. It is sad for the new superintendent and his family who has been pulled into the game of personal agendas, incompetance, and a corrupt system. Not a good situation for a first year superintendent!

A school board member told me that they interviewed a "final four" before selecting this guy. The others had been superintendents, assistant superintendents and seemed much more qualified. Why did they hire someone that has never been a teacher, was only a principal for a year and doesn't have the background? Seems like they hired another patsy for Belcher and Hodges.

Until you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes you really shouldn't say anything. Children nowadays need to be respectful of their elders, held accountable for their actions, learn life long lessons to help them live a long life and get an education so they can be successful. All the other drama isn't worth a hill of beans.

Why can't everyone leave these two men alone? Give him a chance to get settled and pray he will be good for us here at BCS. For Mr. Abele Please leave him and his lovely family out of it!!

At least you all are lucky not to have Dr. Daly, which Martin County has. He is the worst that NC has ever had in any school system.
