Duke, UNC Hold Summit On Blacks And Recession

A summit at Duke University and the University of North Carolina will address whether the recession has disproportionately affected blacks.

The African-American Economic Summit will be Sunday at the Chapel Hill school and Monday in Durham.

Discussions will cover topics including housing, education, labor, wealth, health and incarceration as they relate to blacks and their communities.

After each day's discussions, experts will meet privately to draft policy recommendations that will be sent to Gov. Beverly Perdue and President Barack Obama.

The summit is sponsored by UNC's Institute of African-American Research and Duke's Research Network on Racial and Ethnic Inequality.

so just saying on Nov 2, 2009 at 09:27 AM: I am refering to the fact that in most cases when a white man talks of having a meeting to better their race it is directed at elimating the black man and NOT ensuring racial harmony. Are you not paying attention? Please do before trying to engage me in a debate. Thank you. Devil Dog Location: Greenville on Nov 2, 2009 at 10:47 AM: You mean "Life,Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" for the white race. What about the suppression of an entire race or the thieving from another. Oh and SAM: The thing you refer to as slavery can NOT be compared to the slavery of the Black race.

Duke and UNC are predominately white colleges so it is not racist. And white people you guys are going to bust a blood vessel with all the anger you have. If black people want to have a summit they can. Why do you keep asking why don't whites have a summit and keep answering with it will be racist? How dumb and petty can you be? Grow up!!! If you want a summit get one.

Slavery didn't end at the Civil War. It's still going on today. The working class people are the slaves of today for the Federal and State govt. They are like the rich landowners that take our money in taxes and then do as they please by wasting it. Govt is the master!!!!!

Purebread, amen, brother. As long as we play division, there will be division. Forums like this only spur the division and hurt us long term.

Just Saying: Well, yep I agree, slavery was a bad thing. Probably the worst thing that could have happened to this country. Especially when I think about all the tax money that has been thrown at the ancestors of former slaves with such little result. Just think how great this country could have been had we not had to provide such wasted funds. Slavery was bad, it sure was, but there is no way you can justify the poor performance of many of the surviving ancestors since that time.

Our Founding Fathers said "Life,Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not Welfare,Healthcare, and other handouts that foster laziness and stupidity. More tax monies going to waste! Soon, people will have to fend for themselves, and it will be a real eye opener.

More fuel for racism. I can't believe this. Everyone, no matter their skin colour, has equal rights in this Country. So my fellow black man who won't do anything to get by in ths world, why don't you do something for YOURSELF for once!?!

This is just stupid.Black folks are not the only ones struggling in this economy. Most of the black folk that are stuggling have put it on themselves.I know I am a 44 year old black man and I see it every day almost everywhere on almost every street I turn on the inner cities. This should be an AMERICAN ECONOMIC SUMMIT not singeling out one race.I have never seen so much racism in my life until the Obama Administration took over. All colleges and the Obama administration need to be more CONSTRUCTIVE instead of DEVIDED and DESTRUCTIVE

Are you saying that this is the same as a klan meeting, just black fols this time. That itself is the most racist remark being made here. What people are saying is it is time for black people to quit trying to finds reasons why they are being held back and start doing something to fix their community, because it really does not effect white folks anyway.
