Teachers Learn How To Keep Up With Tech Savvy Students

Kids know so much about computers that they can teach some adults a thing or two about them. That's why one school system is educating its teachers on the importance of technology in the classroom.

Pitt county teachers spent Friday afternoon in class for this year's technology fair at South Central High School in Winterville. They picked up on the latest in learning tools for the classroom. These educators will soon use interactive programs to reach their students more effectively.

Organizer Tim Decresie says, "They are 21st century learners, they know how to use the technology and if we don't engage them with the technology....we can no longer be in the position to teach them the way we were taught, we have to move forward and that's the purpose of the tech fair."

The school district just purchased more than a hundred smartboards for teachers this year with the use of stimulus funds. Smartboards are essentially high tech computer chalkboards that allow teachers to do on the wall what kids are used to on a computer screen.
