Asbestos Forces Closure Of Community College Building

A community college building has been closed after asbestos was found in the building's old floor tile.

Tests show that the Bender Building at Craven Community College must be cleared and the asbestos removed.

"Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our students and employees," said Craven President Catherine Chew.

The building is used for the college's continuing education program and Craven says tests suggest that exposure to people who were in the building was minimal.

College employees have been moved out of the building and they've hired an environmental engineer and a state-licenses contractor to clean up the asbestos.
