School CEO Retiring After Court Decision

State schools CEO Bill Harrison says he's retiring next month. It comes a week after a judge ruled that Superintendent June Atkinson should run the state's school system.

Harrison was appointed to the newly created position earlier this year by Governor Beverly Perdue. The judge ruled that Perdue's move was unconstitutional and that the elected schools superintendent should be in charge of the system.

Harrison says he will continue his service as chairman of the State Board of Education. "Quite frankly, I've wasted too many hours on this case - hours I would rather use working with you and education leaders across the state to accomplish the one thing Gov. Perdue asked of me six months ago: reforming our public education system to best serve our children," Harrison said in a statement to school system employees.

A 1995 North Carolina law let the state school board shape the superintendent's job. But a Wake County judge ruled Friday that the state constitution gives day-to-day administrative control to the elected superintendent.

June Atkinson won her second term as superintendent last fall, but the state school board has kept her from running things.

She is just like her other dunbocrat buddy, Obama and his Obamunism politics. Guess this was her attempt to circumvent the people just like he does by appointing 20 "czars" to oversee everything. what a crock.
