The former administrator who hired former first lady Mary Easley at North Carolina State University in 2005 has wrapped up testimony before a federal grand jury.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported ex-university provost Larry Nielsen finished several hours of testimony by noon Friday. He already had testified Thursday at the federal courthouse in Raleigh.
Nielsen's appearance comes as federal prosecutors have issued subpoenas seeking information about activities surrounding former Gov. Mike Easley and his wife.
The government has sought documents about Mary Easley's job that e-mails indicate Mike Easley played a role in helping her secure.
She received a large pay raise last year. N.C. State University trustees fired her last month as scrutiny increased about how she obtained her job.
