ECU Arts Program Feeling The Financial Pinch

The economic crisis affecting local colleges and universities is hitting hard for those needing scholarships. And with endowments fluctuating with the volatile market, one program at East Carolina is turning to their "friends."

The School of Theatre and Dance at East Carolina is depending on their friends foundation to offset the loss in endowment money meant to bring in the best schools.

Students say with rehearsals, class and other commitments they cannot work and go to school, so scholarship money is key to keep them on the stage.

According to ECU, their endowments dropped 29 percent during the four month period that ending in January.

Salaries for faculty - especially head of theatre at ECU is grossly high... not to mention summer course money... like the corrupt wall st/sterns et al people, let the facuty take cuts in salary and put towards student tuition. If they want their jobs - sacrifice - like everyone else

Although I ddon't care one bit about the arts there at all, I do feel for the ones that need that scholarship money to get through. I would hate to see this program go away cause of how bad this economy has become, resulting from crooked politicians and crooked executives trying to take every hard earned dollar of ours that we have.

Lisa Marie who is in charge of the Playhouse does an excellent job. Great entertainment in Greenville.
