Student Charged In Middle School Bomb Threat

A middle school student is charged with a felony, accused in a bomb threat at Morehead City Middle School in Carteret County.

Student at the school were evacuated to a nearby church at 12:30 Tuesday so law enforcement could search the school.

No device was found.

A student at the school is charged with making a false report concerning a destructive device.

One Carteret County school was dismissed early Tuesday.

Parents of students at Morehead City Middle School were asked to pick up their children between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. at the Glad Tidings Church on Country Club Road.

The school was closed because police needed to search the facility, but all students are safe.

If parents were not able to pick up their children between 12:30 and 1:30, school staff were scheduled to remain at Glad Tidings until the end of the regular school day.

    The parents are equally to blame. They need to be more aware of what's going on in their child's life. Yes, they can't be there every moment, but they can be more attentive to how their child is acting and surely there were enough warning signals to see this. There is no excuse.
