NC GOP Leader Says Keep Kids Out Of School Monday

The chairman of the Wake County Republican Party is encouraging parents to keep their children out of school on Memorial Day.

Administrators say students at year-round Wake County schools are scheduled for class Monday because principals preferred to be off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and didn't want to shorten the winter break.

In a news release, Wake County GOP chairman Claude Pope says children should stay home so they can honor veterans with their families.

School officials said in a news release that classes for year-around students will be held Monday and they expect parents to make the decision that is best for their families.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg students also will be in class Monday to make up for a snow day.

Michelle, relax and wrap yourself in the flag. I have the right "...to audacity to belittle our veterans..." because I can. Preach your patriotism elsewhere.

Thanks, GBHB! We do have a holiday for our true heroes. It's Labor Day, but it goes by the wayside because it's not dripping in guilt-invoking propoganda by these flag waving hypocrites. Actually, I spent this manditory patrioric holiday watching "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Taxi To The Dark Side".

It is good to have you back Rob! My question is how come we do not have a nationally celebrated holiday for firefighters, police officers, teachers, nurses/doctors, and etc..? Why is the military so much better than these individuals? Honestly, I would respect the military a little more if they actually protected our shores instead promoting imperialism.

You sit, nice & comfy, posting comments--while there are people at this very moment--losing their lives, so that YOU, can have an ATTITUDE!! To all our military; past, present, and future, I would like to say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! Without you, life as we know it would cease to exist, SO ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU!!!!

Anonymous, We fought and some of us died so that you would never have to bow to any man. A thank you would be nice, but we went so that you can enjoy your holiday.

That's the wonderful thing about our country. You don't have to bow to anyone. Anonymous, I hope you have a great weekend. I wish you a fun time with your family. At the same time, I will remember those who have given their lives-all the men, women and animals not just the brilliant general or heroic pilot but the humble infantry soldier who fell at Yorktown, the corpsman and medic who tried in vain to save them, the horse who stood fast as cannon shot fell around it, the dog who ran through enemy lines to get help for his people, and all the others who have become forgotten. I don't worship their memory but I thank it for being able to sit here today and say "Have a great weekend!"

I have never, and will never bow to a military person or a veteran.
