NC GOP Leader Says Keep Kids Out Of School Monday

The chairman of the Wake County Republican Party is encouraging parents to keep their children out of school on Memorial Day.

Administrators say students at year-round Wake County schools are scheduled for class Monday because principals preferred to be off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and didn't want to shorten the winter break.

In a news release, Wake County GOP chairman Claude Pope says children should stay home so they can honor veterans with their families.

School officials said in a news release that classes for year-around students will be held Monday and they expect parents to make the decision that is best for their families.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg students also will be in class Monday to make up for a snow day.
