ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard On Potential Budget Cuts

By: Christine Kennedy
By: Christine Kennedy

East Carolina University Chancellor Steve Ballard is responding to a proposed resolution from Faculty Senate Officers and the ECU-AAUP. This week they said they wanted a hiring freeze and stipends cut in order to prevent job cuts.

In a letter to the faculty and ECU campus community, Ballard says he can assure them of at least two things.

That the administration will do everything to execute the budget policy of the board of trustees and continue to communicate the reality of the fiscal situation to the ECU community.

But he said he'll need help, asking for a collaborative, not adversarial, effort.

There are alot of people working very hard at ECU on the budget crisis...and are doing a great job. The biggest battle is the negativity among those that don't know what they are talking about and trying to stir up trouble just to see their name in print.

Shut down the ECU Business School. Why 100 million business major when we don;t have any business in this country. You don't need a college degree to work at Walmart or in the mall. Don't cut budget in important ones like medical school. Lot of baby boomers retiring very soon. Just shut down ECU BUSINESS SCHOOL a useless piece of junk.

I rode by the Chancellor's house the other day and there was a lot of yard work being done. Can't that wait??? That's not a necessity right now.

I agree Jimbo; ECU could use a wise leader like Chancellor Palpatine.

Weak leader. ECU deserves better. Come on chancellor, don't cut and run yet. Put your lean six sigma professors to work reengineering your processes to find your cost savings. Let them do some real work versus theory for a change. It's easy and it works....I've done it!! If I was an ECU employee I would be screaming for this.
