NC Schools Superintendent To Sue Over Job

June Atkinson is prepared to sue over her role as North Carolina state schools superintendent.

A legal advocacy group said Thursday it plans to discuss a lawsuit it's helping file for Atkinson. The North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law plans to discuss the lawsuit Friday. The group is led by former Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr.

Atkinson is elected statewide to the job but the State Board of Education has given her few powers to oversee the nearly 1.5
million-student system. The board last month appointed board Chairman Bill Harrison to become chief executive officer of the schools, as requested by Gov. Beverly Perdue.

Atkinson told lawmakers a few weeks ago that voters who chose her as superintendent believe she's supposed to manage the schools.

Clifton from Washington county, if what you say is true, she needs to be voted out. We have laws and elections for a reason. When governors twist laws and break laws trying to get the results they want to satisfy their politics, the whole system becomes suspect and corrupt. Do it right way, vote her out of office if you don't like her. Until then, she has her job and should be left to do it.

Hey folks, she did not get my vote! I have sent over 15 messages to her about issues in Washington County over the past three years and to date have not gotten one single response. At some point I think she could have at least had a secretary send me some type of response. This just tells me she isn't working very hard on her job!

Maybe she should take the hint and move on to another job. I can't see where she has done anything to help our schools. She just goes to work, collects a check and goes home.

The bottom line is, Bev Perdue didn't like the person the people chose to manage the schools. Therefore, in the usual dumocrat way of operating, she decided to do an end run around the will of the people because their will didn't suit her. These big government, overbearing types (perdue) think they are so much smarter than everyone else that they are justified in these questionable methods. They twist the law, not to mention the spirit of law to basically dictate whatever they want. What is truly disheartening is that there are fools in this state and the country who are willing to allow the people's will to be supplanted. They stupidly and blindly cheer these powergrabs by politicians like perdue because they agree with her agenda. If a Republican were elected and they tried usurping power in this same manner, these cackling idiot liberals would be screaming bloody murder. Your left wing hypocrisy knows no bounds!

I don't think Bev Perdue has started off to a good start. Let this lady do her job. It's what the people elected her to do. The govenor has already taken some of the Education Lottery money. Talk is going around that the state employees may have to work without pay. Bev had a new office put in Charlotte that we are having to pay for, and probably staff it also. This is not necessary. How many days will Bev work and not get paid? NONE!!! Should not have voted for her!!

I don't blame her. It is absurd that the State of NC is paying someone else a huge salary to do the job that Ms. Atkinson was elected to do, therefore, two salaries are being paid. And people wonder what is wrong with the state and federal government...This is a prime example.
