April Fools Virus Is No Joke

Microsoft is warning people of an April Fool's prank expecting nearly 10 million computers to be infected with a nasty virus.

Computer experts say a malicious worm called the 'Conficker Virus' could infect your hard-drive Wednesday.

The virus has the potential to prohibit you to access the Internet, computer programs, and may even leave you open to identity theft.

Computer technicians say one way to tell if your computer has the virus is if you are unable to access anti-virus or security websites.

Experts say the virus is mainly targeted at the PC format.

But Mac based computers along with I-phones may be susceptible to the virus.

If your computer comes down with the Conficker Virus, there are ways to get rid of it. First, go to your favorite search engine and type in 'Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool'. Then click on the link that will take you to the Microsoft website. There follow the instructions until you find the tool that will remove the virus from your computer."

The Conficker virus isn't a malicious code, it simply infects itself and then sits dormant on the system waiting for further instructions from it's author. Roughly ten million PC's are infected, mostly at the corporate level, and they don't even know it. When activated, this virus could harvest hundreds of thousands of credit card numbers and back account information as well as any other personal information you may have stored on your system. You should be sure to update your anti virus software every day, if not ever hour. Also, be sure to always download critical updates from Microsoft as soon as possible!

Dr. Livingston I presume, Hello..It is quite obvious that you did not have the worm...It was created by the Chinese. You are on line. Perhaps you should turn your computer off and never turn it on again...

Stanley-I had the same thing to happen. My anti-virus software wouldn't work & I couldn't access the updates online. Something was blocking me from those websites. I had to do a lot of research to find out how to fix it. I had to start up my computer in "safe mode" and run my anti-virus software that way. It took a lot of time & hard work to fix it. I ran Windows Live computer check last night so hopefully I don't have it. I certainly hope not. I can't afford to take it to a technician or buy a new one.

I hope they find out who is doing this and punish them. This is not funny. Computers are expensive and people just dont have extra money laying around to fix things like this because someone wants to try to be "funny"!
