ECU Celebrates

The financial outlook may not be so bright at ECU but there was still time for a celebration Thursday.

It was all part of Founder's Day activities, which took place in front of the new trustee's fountain that was rebuilt due to faulty underground wiring.

While the university is faced with cutting millions out of its budget, Chancellor Steve Ballard is confident in the university's growth. "We're going to continue to grow and we're going to protect those things that really make the most difference for East Carolina and the whole state of North Carolina. The budget will test our willpower, but it will not affect our character and it won't change our quality."

After the dedication, a convocation was held to honor distinguished alumni. Janice Hardison Faulkner received the Jarvis medal for her service as our state's Secretary of Revenue, Secretary of State and Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
