Pitt Schools Lose One-Million In Lottery Funds

Pitt County Schools officials say a plan to use lottery money to help with the state budget deficit will cost them one-million dollars.

Governor Beverly Perdue says she's taking 88 million in lottery money to help build the general fund. In turn, school systems will miss out on funds.

In Pitt County, they just got word close to one million dollars will not be allocated this quarter.

Schools spokesperson Heather Mayo says, "We're really concerned with our future of these proceeds. Certainly we can live one quarter being withheld but what's going to happen to the next several quarters?"

The lottery was approved three years ago with the purpose that the money would be used for education.
