Emotional School Forum

With tears in their eyes -- parents concerned about the future education of their children pleaded with the Pitt County School Board Monday night in the 6th and final listening session for a proposed 55 million dollar plan to revamp many of the county's schools.

Parents filled J.H. Rose high school to voice their final concerns.

Kelly Boyd says, "I'm not against change, but I think the change they're proposing is not good for our community."

Boyd's talking about a proposed long range facility plan the school board is considering. Among the most controversial part of the plan -- changing some of the county's kindergarten through 8th grade configurations.

Superintendent Beverly Reep says, "What's likely going to happen here is that parts of this plan will move ahead and other parts It'll take a little more time to work on and look at whether we need to come up with alternatives."

Reep says people's voices will not go unheard -- and that because there's been such opposition -- the board's decided it needs more time to make a final decision.
