Ballard Staying As ECU Chancellor

East Carolina University says Steve Ballard will remain at the university as chancellor.

Ballard has withdrawn as a candidate for the presidency of Kansas State University.

"The simplest reason is that Kansas State just didn't feel as good to me as ECU does," Ballard said. "You always learn something interviewing for competitive positions, and this one reminded me what a great place ECU is and how much I like working with the people here."

Ballard has been chancellor at ECU since May of 2004.

He was one of three finalists for the KSU position and visited the university two weeks ago with his wife. Kansas State has not announced yet who will become its new president.

I was hoping that he would go. He has it made here at ECU. The Board of Trustees love him to death and they give him what he wants. He constantly complains and he gets what he wants. So why not stay. He doesn't care about the students. For God sakes, he doesn't even want to live close to ECU so that he won't have to listen to the noisy students around him.

I am tired of the "officer in the driveway" and all other ill informed or limited knowledge complaints. ECU is getting lots of positive attention and credit for attracting good leaders (it takes a team) and without the right leader at the top ya think that would be happening.

Yeah if he likes ECU so much why would he interview anywhere else to begin with?!? The Police car is in his driveway because the College kids were too loud when they were walking home from downtown. Big WASTE of ECU Police resources in my opinion. Having to Babysit the Chancellors house, what a joke! Hey M good Political response! LOL!

My ECU Cop neighbor said it was because students were ringing his doorbell

Please be informed of the facts before posting an opinion. The patrol car is not simply for observing the chancellor's home. It allows campus police to monitor activity on 5th street. This is a piece of information received from a campus police officer.

Too bad. Sure would love to see him go. Wonder if the ECU Police still have to patrol his house every night. They used to have to sit a car in his drive.

Well, there goes my dream of Chancellor Palpatine taking over at the helm at ECU.

If he liked working with the people at ECU so much, then why did he apply with someone else in the first place?

I guess since the football teams coaching staff all took interviews, he freaked out and decided he needed to take one too...and when they decided not to leave came back as well?!?
