A large group of Jones County students get to veer a little bit from their typical lesson plan this week.

It all started Monday when a Black Hawk Helicopter from the U.S. Army landed on Trenton Elementary's front lawn.

It's all part of a program started by school officials called Starbase.

The five day program conducted at the elementary school involves lessons and activities based on state fifth grade objectives.

Students prepare flight plans for a journey across the U.S., test Newton's three laws of motion, and build individual rockets.

On Monday they toured the Blackhawk.

The 4th and 5th grade classes will work with the instructors all week. A graduation ceremony will be held Friday following rocket launching from students.
