Second Case Of Pepper Spraying At Pitt County Schools

There's been another case of students pepper sprayed in a Pitt County school, the second one in less than ten days.

The latest happened Friday afternoon at J.H. Rose High School.

School spokesperson Heather Mayo tells WITN News that two girls got into a fight around 1:40 p.m. in the school's commons area. She said several hundred students crowded in to watch the fight.

A school resource officer and a custodian tried to break up the fight, with the officer repeatedly blowing his whistle for the students to leave and for the students to stop fighting.

Mayo says to gain control and not let the situation get out of control the officer used his pepper spray on the two ninth grade girls.

No students were transported to the hospital, while Mayo said a couple of parents picked up their children from school.

The two girls involved with the fight were arrested by Greenville police.

On November 5th several students at A.G. Cox Middle School in Winterville were taken to the hospital after pepper spray was used to break up a fight.

Original Story

Three students were sent to the hospital after a school resource officer had to use pepper spray to break up a fight.

It happened at lunch today at A.G. Cox Middle School in Winterville.

Pitt County Schools spokeswoman Heather Mayo says three boys got into a fight in the cafeteria. When the resource officer used the pepper spray it caused eye irritation to other students.

Emergency medial workers set up a triage at the school for students with burning eyes and two were transported to the hospital because of the pepper spray. A third student, who was involved in the fight, also went to the hospital.

Mayo says an ambulance stayed at the school as a precaution, while they don't know yet a motive for the fight.
