Wilson Neighborhood Lockdown Lifted

Residents of one Wilson neighborhood are now free to come and go, after police lifted a mandated lockdown that was put into effect overnight during a search for a break-in suspect.

We spoke with Wilson Police Sgt. John Slaughter, who says a break-in at The Gallery of Flowers on Airport Boulevard in Wilson, led to a chase after the suspect.

Sgt. Slaughter says police asked residents of the Lakeside and Queensferry Drive areas to stay inside, but now the search perimeter has been lifted.

The suspect who broke into the flower shop and led police on a chase, ditched his car and ran into the woods. He still has not been found.

I thank the police department for the warning and advice to stay indoors. We were not on a forced lockdown. I took their advice and stayed put but some of my neighbors chose not to and they were not forced back into their homes.

I could understand this for a murderer or rapist, but a B&E? Maybe if the court system cared as much as the police seem to, I might care more, but I know even if caught the suspect will only get a slap on the wrist.

I don't care who or what they were looking for, I would never have thought that in the US, the land of the free, that the "police" would be able to lock down a community. Dont give me the "well if it were your community or what if it was your family, blah, blah, blah." If you feel like this is ok then you should move to North Korea or China and you can help them "protect the public" from themselves and others.
