A Wayne County man who drove a shooting victim to the hospital is now charged with pulling the trigger.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says John Collins Chase II dropped off Anthony Carter at Wayne Memorial Hospital Tuesday with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Deputies say Chase initially told police Carter was the victim of a drug deal gone bad.
Investigators say that however was not the case and say Chase shot Carter following an argument.
Chase is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Carter was transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville and listed in serious condition.
