Washington Man Convicted Of Stealing Guns

Stephen Nichols, 33, of Washington is now awaiting sentencing after he was convicted of federal firearm charges.

Prosecutors say Nichols was caught trying to sell a stolen bow with arrows. The weapon was taken during a home invasion in October 2010 where two shotguns and two rifles were also stolen. Another break-in where guns were stolen was reported the same day. Two days after the break-ins, local law enforcement got word that Nichols was trying to sell firearms. After word got out that Nichols was wanted by law enforcement, another individual brought the bow and arrows purchased from Nichols to law enforcement. They matched the stolen items.

A federal jury convicted Nichols of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen firearms.

The U.S. Justice Department says the maximum penalty for each charge is up to ten years imprisonment. However, if the Court determines Nichols is an "armed career criminal," he could be sentenced to life in prison.
