Wake County Deputy Shoots Man During Suicide Call

A Wake County deputy has shot and killed a 25-year-old man that he said threatened him with a knife.

Authorities said First Class Deputy Tavares Thompson answered a call about a suicidal man in north Raleigh around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators say Adam Carter threatened Thompson with a knife and he shot him. Carter died a short time later at the hospital.

Thompson has been with the Wake County Sherriff's Office for nearly five years.

The State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into the shooting.
