Uncle Sentenced For Nephew's Death While Hunting

The uncle of a 12-year-old Tarboro boy who died in a hunting accident has been sentenced for the child's death.

Jason Parker of Franklinton pleaded pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and obtaining a license under false pretense,

Authorities say he accidentally shot his nephew, James Parker, on December 28 while their family was hunting in Wake Forest.

Parker was given a suspended sentence of 13 to 25 months.

Jason Parker of Franklinton is charged with involuntary manslaughter and obtaining a license under false pretense.

James Parker was killed in the December 28th hunting accident in northern Wake County. The child was hunting with his father and uncle. He died from a fatal wound from a 12 gauge shotgun.

Officers say the uncle had improperly acquired a hunting license and had not taken the required hunting education course.

Authorities say the 30-year-old man turned himself into authorities Thursday night.
