Two In Custody After Roanoke Rapids Armed Robbery

Halifax County Sheriff Deputies say they responded to the Brandy Creek area of Roanoke Rapids earlier this month in reference to an armed robbery and an assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries.

Authorities say the victim stated he was robbed and beaten with a handgun. They say the suspects then left in their car, with the victim in pursuit.

Lawmen report the victim stated once they got on I-95 North, the suspects shot at the victim’s car and the victim then pulled over and waited for Law Enforcement and EMS to arrive.

The victim was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center for his injuries.

The Virginia State Police, Greensville County Sheriff and Emporia Police were notified of the suspect heading into their jurisdiction.

They say the Emporia Police Department, found the car and took two suspects into custody with the third still at large.

The two suspects that are in custody are, 16-year-old Donavan Edwards of Roanoke Rapids and Sequan Carter a 16 year old Littleton resident.

Authorities say the third suspect, Jeremiah Mangum a 23-year-old Roanoke Rapids resident, fled on foot when the Emporia Police Department turned around the suspect’s vehicle originally.

The two suspects in custody are being held in Virginia awaiting extradition back to Halifax County.
