More Video...

Duplin County (WITN) State troopers say the driver who they believe struck a killed a little boy says they didn't realize she had hit anyone. This as another agency is investigating whether to charge the boy's parents in the case.

21-month-old Ismael Aleman was killed when he ran out into the road in front of his home Friday night in Duplin County. Troopers say the driver didn't stop for the accident.

The driver, who has not been identified, was located after troopers got a lead about her car found in a parking lot on Monday.

Trooper Jon Gurganus says Aleman, along with a 12-year-old and a 4-year-old were playing in the front yard when the toddler ran out into Garner Chapel Road. The toddler was thrown forward, while the driver looked back and didn't see anything, thinking they may have hit an animal or piece of farm equipment.

Gurganus says the driver told them she stopped at a nearby stop sign, didn't see any damage and drove on. He says the woman is very remorseful about what happened.

The Highway Patrol is now discussing whether to bring felony or misdemeanor charges of felony hit and run against the driver.

Gurganus says the Duplin County Sheriff's Office is now looking into the possibility of charges against the parents of the toddler.

The Highway Patrol told WITN the suspect behind the wheel of the vehicle which hit and killed a Duplin County toddler has been located.

Troopers said both the suspect and vehicle from the deadly hit and run have been found, but troopers have not yet released the suspect's name or details of where they found the driver.
