Wayne County deputies say a tip from a concerned citizen led to the arrest of a murder suspect Saturday morning.
Deputies were called out to an area on Waller Road in Mount Olive in reference to an assault around 2 a.m. Saturday.
When they got there deputies found 32-year-old Alexander Sura-Cruz dead.
Deputies say the murder suspect had fled the area. They say the suspect was an acquaintance of Sura-Cruz.
Canine units tracked the suspect until the track was lost at a road. Detectives investigating were able to identify a suspect. Warrants were then secured for the arrest of Carlos Calderon.
Later in the morning a concerned citizen reported a suspicious person walking near a wood line off of Waller Road. Deputies responded and found Calderon. Calderon was arrested around 10:20 a.m. He is in jail under no bond and charged with one count of murder.
Sura-Cruz will has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
