Suspects In Kinston Mother's Murder Will Be Tried Together

A Raleigh couple who are accused of killing a Kinston mother will be tried together for the crime.

Grant Hayes and his wife, Amanda, are charged with killing Laura Ackerson back in 2011 in Raleigh. The woman's dismembered body was found days later in a Richmond, Texas creek. Texas authorities believe Ackerson was killed in North Carolina, dismembered, and her body transported in coolers in a rented truck to Richmond.

After a hearing this morning in Wake County, Judge Donald Stephens ruled that the two would be tried at the same time. Their trial is still scheduled for May 20st in Wake County.

Grant Hayes was the father of Ackerson's children and the two were involved in a custody battle when the woman was murdered.
