State Park Ranger Charged With Sex Offenses

A state park ranger is in jail after his arrested for sex offenses that allegedly happened in two counties.

Carteret County deputies say they have charged Michael Hagie with sexual activity by a substitute parent after a sexual assault that occurred at the family's second home in Morehead City this summer.

Hagie, who lives in Wake Forest, is park ranger at the Holly Point campground at Falls Lake State Recreation Area. The 38-year-old man was arrested last Friday by Wake County deputies on 15 charges of indecent liberties with a child and one count of statutory rape/sex offense. Authorities say those offenses happened in Wake County between March 2010 and June of this year involving two young girls.

Hagie was placed on investigatory leave with pay by the state park system and has been at Falls Lake since 1999. He's in the Wake County jail on a $800,000 bond.
