ECU Students Arrested After Stash Of Weapons Found At Greenville Apartment Complex

A stash of guns, including several semi-automatic assault rifles, was found at a Greenville apartment complex that is popular with ECU students.

Two East Carolina students and a former Pitt Community College student ended up being arrested.

Greenville police say there were called to Copper Beech around 1:30 a.m. Thursday for a shots fired call and saw a man run into one apartment. When officers went to that apartment, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers found a half dozen guns, including two AK-47s and an AR-15 assault rifle. Police also found more that $5,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Anthony Johnnie, who lives at the apartment, along with George Jones, were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones was also arrested for resisting a public officer.

That search led police to a second apartment at Copper Beech. Police say they found Samuel Simmons in possession of 68 Adderall pills, drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a 9mm handgun.

ECU says Jones and Simmons are both current students at the university, while Pitt Community College says Johnnie was a student there, but left last month.
