DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Durham police say an officer fatally shot a man armed with a knife after officers found another man bleeding heavily from cuts.
The police department said in a release that officers reporting to a stabbing call about 8:30 a.m. Saturday found a man who had been cut on the face. They saw a man with a knife a block away and confronted him.
According to a preliminary investigation, the man refused to drop the knife and was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The shooting is being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Durham Police Department, according to standard practice.
