Skeletal remains have been found in Eastern Carolina that may be tied to a person in Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth City police say they were called around 10:00 a.m. Monday to the wooded section between Robert Sawyers Garage and Knobs Creek Bridge on U.S. 17 North.
A D.O.T. worker made the gruesome discovery and called police.
Police say the body appears to have been there for several months, and can't be immediately identified because of the level of decay. Identification was found linking the body to a person in Pennsylvania.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, and police say they're continuing their efforts to positively identify the body.
