Sheriff's Office: Onslow Infant Assaulted By Mom's Boyfriend

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office says a 21-month-old was assaulted by the mother's boyfriend and now both are charged.

21-year-old Michael Hansley of Jacksonville is charged with misdemeanor child abuse, contributing to a juvenile being abused and assault on a child under 12. The child's mother, 22-year-old Kristyn Smith of New Bern, is charged with resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer.

The sheriff's office says Hansley hit the child back in November, telling investigator's he was upset with the child's mother but didn't want to hit her because he would be charged with assault on a female, which would be his second such charge.

The child was taken to the hospital for treatment where officials say the mother blamed the injuries on a day care worker.

Hansley's bond is $7.500 while Smith's is $2,500.

Lock them both up for a long time, so they'll never breed again, and give that child some actual human beings for parents instead of these two animals.

Any mother who would try to cover up the physical abuse inflicted on her child by her boyfriend by blaming someone else is a sorry mother at best. Put a restraining order on the abuser and forbid him from going within one hundred yards of the child. Force the mother to choose between an abusive boyfriend or an innoccent child because the next time this idiot gets angry, the child's injuries might be much more severe.

Please tell me this child was not abused in November and allowed to remain in the custody of these 2 low life's until now. Has DSS removed the child?

$7500 bond? Is that all? You would think a 21 month old baby's life is worth more than that. What a disgrace.

I hope the baby is okay. These two need to be put away and if they ever get out, neither have any more children.
