Pitt County Sheriff: Seventy Blocks Of Heroin Confiscated

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says that a drug investigation stemming from a tip back in November of last year has resulted in a large drug bust.

We’re told the tip started an investigation into a heroin distribution ring around Stokes. Lawmen say during this past week, detectives seized 500 dosage units of heroin, along with $3,500 in cash.

Officials say that seizure led detectives to 34-year-old Maurice Whichard of Chestnut Street in Greenville. On January 11th, the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of Greenville Police, executed a search warrant on Whichard’s home.

There detectives say they seized 2,950 dosage units of heroin and $1,138 in cash.

Officials say the investigation netted seventy blocks of heroin.

Whichard was arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin, possession with intent to sell and distribute heroin, and possession with intent to sell and distribute heroin within 1,000 feet of a school.

Whichard is in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $5 million secured bond.
