Bond has been set at $5 million for a convicted sex offender who deputies say has been jumping from state to state.
Michael Anderson of Emerald Isle is in jail for failing to register as a sex offender in North Carolina. U.S. Marshals alerted Carteret County deputies after they discovered the man was living in the county. Lawmen say Anderson also goes by the name Michael Burton.
Deputies say the high bond is because they believe Anderson is a flight risk. They say the 32-year-old man has failed to register as a sex offender in Florida and Texas before moving to North Carolina.
Anderson is also charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and communicating threats.
