Sex Offender Charged With Being On Facebook

Deputies say a registered sex offender went on Facebook, a violation of his sex offender registry conditions.

John Avery of Newport was charged with accessing and utilizing a social networking site as a registered sex offender.

Carteret County deputies say the 32-year-old is accused of using Facebook prior to heading to jail on other charges. Avery's bond was set at $3,000.

He was originally placed on the registry in 2003 after being convicted of taking indecent liberties with a child.

If you are a violent predetor and tring to lur kids in I can say that they should not be on there and too if they spend hours upon hours on there, but if they are not violent and they are not spending hours on their and trying to lure kids. I dont see what the problem is

@Micah: "indecent liberties with a child" usually means something sexual happened so in reality it was. As for FB itself, it is very slow to respond to removing sex offenders from its site. I know that sometimes it can take a week or so to go through all of the reports(with factual data)but a month is ridiculous. At least down here the police are doing something about it. Wouldn't that be a great story...FB slow to respond to police submitted evidence of sex offenders using FB. I submitted a comment via witn2go similar to this one that WITN is more than welcome to delete if this comment gets posted. Thanks :)

To Micah: "indecent liberties with a child" usually means the person touched them in a sexual way so yeah in a sense it was child molestation. And at least the police are doing something about it. Facebook is slow to respond to a report of a sex offender on their site. I know it for a fact. That would be a great story to come out before the stock goes public huh?

100% recidivism among sex offenders. It's a shame the laws protect the criminals instead of the rest of us. Life with no parole on the first offense would save a lot of children!

To Uncle Sam: How do you know he is a child Molester? I did not read anything in that short story that indicated he molested a child.

4 comments when you run a story on sex offenders every single day people get sick of the same old story. This law is a waste of money, LEO time.

Another predator cruising the web for another victim, this is the worst kind of scum. The bad thing is he will be back out and on the prowl in no time, this man needs to spend some major time in prison and see what a predator really is.The general population in prison know how to deal with a child molester .

ANYBODY that has been charged with a sex crime and the evidence does support it; need to be shot and gotten rid of so they cannot do it again. ESPECIALLY IF IT IS AGAINST A CHILD!!!!
