A man who once oversaw a sewage treatment plant in Eastern Carolina has admitted to falsifying records.
John Belangia was a contract employee for Trenton, in charge of it's wastewater plant. He pleaded guilty today to seven counts of falsifying records in Jones County District Court.
The SBI investigation showed Belangia intentionally falsified the records from January and October of last year. He told investigators that the records were faked because the town could not afford to pay for chemicals needed to operate the facility.
Belangia was given a suspended sentence and put on supervised probation for 18 months. He was also fined $500 and ordered to pay court costs.
