A patrol sergeant at the Martin County sheriff's office has been fired, after he was identified as a possible suspect in a rape case.
The sheriff's office reports deputies were called to a home in Williamston Monday regarding a rape. Authorities say the off-duty sergeant, David Cross, was identified as a possible suspect.
The sheriff's office immediately called in the SBI to handle the case. A news release reports Cross had been with the sheriff's office since 1998 and was terminated on Monday.
All the SBI will confirm is that its investigators are assisting the sheriff's office with an investigation of rape allegations.
