SUPERINTENDENT: Student With Weapon Threatens Classmate

A middle school student is in trouble with the law after authorities say he had a weapon and threatened another student.

Superintendent John Farrelly says they are investigating a 6th grade student in possession of a BB gun at Union Middle School in Washington County this morning.

Farrelly says the student had the BB gun in his backpack and that other students saw the gun. Farrelly says the student then threatened a girl classmate who informed a teacher. Officials say when approached, the student turned the gun over to staff.

Law enforcement says that the incident will be investigated as a misdemeanor and not a felony.

Earlier, the superintendent said the school resource officer was exploring felony charges for bringing a weapon to school.
