SCAM ALERT: Police Say Florida Man Wanted In Tree Trimming Scheme

Police are looking for a Tampa, Florida man they say has been scamming local people through his tree trimming service.

Frankie Johns is wanted by police in Beulaville and Kinston after homeowners say he bilked them out of thousands of dollars.

Beulaville Police Chief Joey Carter says Johns asks the victims for a deposit on the work, but he doesn't return to finish the job. One Beulaville man is out $2,501, while a Kinston woman lost $985.

Police say Johns drives a white Chevy Silverado crew cab with the logo "Florida Trees" on the door.

Don't blame Florida, NC is full of "native" scammers, too! I met several after Irene.

I make it a point to NEVER have any dealings with someone who has a neck tattoo. It just says "I'm anti-social and I make bad decisions." And when I see a face tattoo, well, I keep my gun close.

I had to have several trees cut down. I had a local business come and give me an estimate. I even offered to pay half and he said, "No ma'am. I don't get paid until the job is done." He even had to come back a second day because it took longer than expected. He still wouldn't take payment until he was completely done. Just use common sense people.

I have been told by reputable businesses that if they have to ask for money up front they more than likely have financial problems. The only thing they could legitimately ask for money for would be materials. Tree trimmers should already have the right tools. If they don't have tools then they are most definitely scammers...

Even with locals, you're asking for problems with deposits. Reputable contractors have operating money. DON'T PAY A DIME TILL IT'S completely DONE to your satisfaction.
