A Rocky Mount man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say they found him trying to sell eight pit bull puppies whose ears were infected from being clipped with shears.
The Rocky Mount Telegram reported that 47-year-old Anthony Harrison is charged with eight counts each of felony animal cruelty and practicing veterinary medicine without a license.
A local businessman says he reported Harrison after talking with him about the puppies, which Harrison was trying to sell last week. Tom Williams says he then reported the dogs' condition to police.
A veterinarian treated the infections, and the dogs are now in the care of volunteers.
It wasn't immediately clear if Harrison has an attorney.
