NEW INFO: Handcuffed Woman Steals Rocky Mount Police Car

Police in Eastern Carolina were on the lookout for a stolen car, this one belonging to the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Authorities say the unmarked police car was stolen around 12:20 p.m. in Sharpsburg on South Barnhill Avenue.

Police say a member of the Rocky Mount/US Marshal Task Force was serving a federal probation violation against Lashawn Evans. The woman was handcuffed and seat belted into the unmarked cruiser when she was able to get behind the wheel and drive away.

Police say Evans was arrested while she was in her own vehicle and the officer was in the process of securing that vehicle when she took off in the police car.

The patrol vehicle was found later at Midtown Grocery with no damage or items missing. Evans was found a short time later on South Pine Street. She's in custody for federal probation violation on weapons charges, escape from custody and larceny of a motor vehicle.
