Possible Mail Theft Under Investigation In Greene Co.

A man in the east is worried someone is stealing Christmas mail after he recently found a stack of opened Christmas cards belonging to other people in his mailbox.

James Topping lives in Snow Hill and says as of Friday he hadn't received any Christmas cards, even though he normally exchanges them with over 30 people. When he checked the mail on Friday he says he found a 3 to 4 inch stack of opened Christmas cards addressed to other people. Topping says he immediately took them to the post office, and is worried someone has been opening up the cards to steal gift cards or money. He says he's also contacted the Greene County Sheriff's Office, which says it's investigating.

Snow Hill Postmaster Michael Harris says he's turned the matter over to the postal authorities and the sheriff's office and says this is the first time he's dealt with mail tampering since he started working there about a year and a half ago.
