Police: Man Killed At Grocery Store, Murder Suspect Wanted

Police need your help in locating a murder suspect who they say shot and killed a man at a grocery store Friday night.

Rocky Mount police are looking for 25-year-old Tarrell Powell. Police say Powell shot 30-year-old Anthony Cooper around 6:30 p.m. Friday as Cooper was leaving the Neighborhood Grocery on Myrtle Ave.

Police say Powell and Cooper knew each other and had an altercation earlier. According to police Powell fled on foot after the shooting towards a residence on East Grand Avenue. Police were not able to locate him at that time.

Cooper was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he died.

Powell has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill inflicting serious injury and police say that will be upgraded to first degree murder. Additional warrants were obtained on Powell for possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
