NEW INFO: ECU Police Searching For Man After Attempted Robbery Of Student

Police continue to search for an armed man who tried to rob an East Carolina University student on campus last night.

The victim, an 18-year-old co-ed who lives on campus, was not hurt.

University police said it happened by the Howell Building around 9:00 p.m.

Police say the freshman was approached by a man who said he had a gun in his waistband, asked her for money for gas for his moped and told her to come with him or he would hurt her. ECU says the girl kicked the man and got away without injury, and the man ran away. The victim told police she never saw a gun.

The man is described as a white male 6 feet tall, in his early twenties, wearing jeans, a gray shirt, with dark hair and some facial hair.

University police say the description is similar to a man that has been previously seen on campus asking for money.

If you have information on this crime or see any suspicious activity, you are encouraged to report this activity to the ECU Police Department at 252-328-6787 or dial 911.
